10 Things (Around the Web) on Tuesday: 12

For those of you who are new to this blog, 10 Things on Tuesday is just me curating lovely links I’ve seen around the internet!

  1. I’ve heard of Go Mighty, but I offically signed up and created an account to keep track of my life goals. Find me here.
  2. One of my new favorite bloggy websites is Blogging it Forward. I’ve already had some great conversations with some ladies I’ve met over there.
  3. I love this post on how to look cute while wearing yoga pants! It might come in handy some day I’m doing laundry and I’m out of clean pants.
  4. Maggie of Gussy Sews did a great post on Pure Charity, which is an online affiliate for giving… basically, you spend money on things that you’d normally spend money on, and they give to a charity (that you choose from their list of affiliates). Go read her post, she explains it so nicely.
  5. I’ve talked before about Laura of Blue Eyed Night Owl (and her awesome bookmarks. Go check out this wishlist post with some cute cat stuff from Threadless!
  6. Speaking of cats… I LOVE Kate of Striped Cat Studio’s paper doll that she included in her Alt Summit business cards. I hope that I can come up with a creative idea for business cards when I go to a blog conference!
  7. I love this freebie phone background posted by Aubrey. In fact, it’s my current phone background and I love it!
  8. I bookmarked this forever ago, and haven’t gotten to check it out yet… but it’s on my to-do list!
  9. I want to print some of Mollie’s cute little mitten bookmarks!
  10. I’m already planning to attend Alt Summit next year, and this is definitely going to happen to keep all my cords together! Sunglasses cases are not easy to come by in Maine right now, but I love the idea!

What have you been loving around the internet lately?

I re-pinned this image from Eileen a few weeks ago, and although I thought it was fun, I didn’t really think I was going to fall in love with the idea of doing an Art Journal Calendar. But I figured out that if I did this for the year, then at the end of the year when I want to do a review and look back over the year, I can just look through my little notebook and see all the good little things that happened… even if the things that happen this year are not big exciting things. And, I’ve stuck with it! I created my calendar and have been writing things in every day.

Around the same time, I actually de-activiated my facebook, and it’s been wonderful. I feel like I am getting so much more accomplished because I’m not spending my evenings just spending time doing nothing on facebook. I’ve been creating things, and getting things done for work. I’ve also been cooking and organizing around the house more.

New etsy shop item!

I made myself a bracelet out of the rings I had around that I never wore, like my high school class ring that’s since gotten too small, and loved it so much that I went out and bought a whole bunch of rings that were on sale/clearance, and made a few to sell!

More paracord bracelets!

More paracord bracelets!

I also re-listed all of my expired paracord bracelets in my etsy shop, and added a few more. I let everything expire and moved things to storenvy… but I think I’m going to go back to etsy. Although there are fees, I would like to get more involved in the community that is over there, and I think at this point, it just makes sense for my store to be there.

So go and check it out! It’s updated with lots of fun goodies! To head over there, just click the image below!

December Goals Check In + 2012 Review + Goals for 2013

First off, let’s check in with how I’m doing with my December goals.

  1. Drink More Water. [I didn’t do well with this at all. But I got an awesome water bottle called the Aquazinger for Christmas that infuses the water with fresh fruit and has definitely upped my water intake!]
  2. Blog 21 times! [I blogged 12 times. Definitely did better with blogging than I have in previous months, but I definitely didn’t officially hit this goal.]
  3. Do dinner/lunch/coffee with friends at least once a week.  [I did great with this goal! Went to a few Christmas parties, spent some time visiting with some friends. Although I did cancel on some friends a few times, I did do better with spending time with others!]
  4. Read 2 Books. [Falling Together by Marisa de los Santos was the only book I ended up reading this month. So I only halfway reached this goal.]
  5. Complete at least two of the DIY/Craft projects on my to-make list. [Did terrible with that.]
  6. Email someone I admire once a week. [I also didn’t do well with this either.]

2012 in Review

I started off January being unemployed… but only a few weeks into the new year I got 2 Part-Time jobs, both in childcare that I loved. Spent a lot of time working. Worked on my birthday, which I wasn’t feeling well for, so it definitely didn’t nearly come close to being as awesome as my 23rd birthday.

The biggest thing that happened to me (besides being employed) was a family trip to Australia for a week and a half when my dad had to go for work. It was my first trip I’ve needed to go through customs, and what I consider to be my first trip out of the country. (When you live in Maine so close to the Canadian border, and you never needed a passport to go there, it doesn’t really count.) It was amazing and we had a great time.

Spent quality time with family and friends, spending some time up in Belgrade Lakes. We did some updates in our kitchen, which looks a million times better than it did before. In late August I gave my 2 weeks notice to my part time jobs and took a full time Assistant Toddler Teacher job working alongside my cousin. It came with benefits and a wonderful group of kids, parents, and co-workers. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we lived through many days this year where we were told that the world was going to end. For Christmas I got quite a bit of fun items, and a lot of gifts and yummy food from the families where I work. I also got a couple scratch tickets, one of which gave me $100 in winnings!

Goals for 2013

Be Healthy:

  • Drink More Water
  • Exercise
  • Eat Better

With my new water bottle, I’m hoping that will help with my water intake. I rarely exercise, unless you consider my work with chasing toddlers exercise. I’m also hoping that I can eat better and just be more aware of how much junk food I’m eating.

  • Visit Eileen in Alaska
  • Plan a 2014 trip to Africa

I haven’t seen Eileen since her wedding in 2011. I definitely need to make a trip up to visit her happen this year! I also want to go to Africa. It’s weighing heavily on my heart. I want to do some proactive work in planning, like figuring out where I’ll go and contacting organizations to work with, and learning some key phrases in a new language.

Take Care of Finances:

  • Participate in The Spending Fast
  • Pay down $12,000 in student loan debt
  • Increase income by running a side business
  • Put my entire tax refund check into a Rainy Day Fund
  • Save coins & $5 savings plan for a special treat

I really hope that my finances are an area in my life where I can make a huge impact in 2013. I hope to pay down $12,000 in my student loan debt. I hope to do some saving by participating in The Spending Fast (with a few exceptions here and there) and by putting my coins and all $5 I get in a piggy bank so that I can save up for a special treat, like a new phone or a DSLR. I want to put my entire tax refund into savings for something like a Travel Fund or to save up to move out of my parents house. I also want to either re-open and do a lot to grow cool & pretty things shop, or do some other side business.

Make Time for Friends:

  • Remember Birthdays
  • Show Up
  • Respond in a timely fashion

I want to be better with my relationships with others. I want to give people birthday cards for their birthdays instead of just a message on facebook. I want to stop canceling plans with people and really just show up (and give them my undivided attention, putting the phone away). I also need to be better at responding to text messages in a timely matter.

Hobbies and Crafts:

  • Learn to knit
  • Learn to crochet
  • Work on my sewing abilities
  • Make some jewelry
  • Finishing cheerleading scrapbook
  • Start travel scrapbook
  • Finish recipe book
  • Read 26 books

I want to learn to knit  or crochet, or maybe both. I really want to do some more sewing since I haven’t really sewed a lot and I would love to work up to where I can make myself some things from different patterns. I want to make some jewelry and work on just generally being more crafty. I also want to re-teach myself to do cross-stitch/needlepoint.

I want to finish my cheerleading scrapbook, since it’s the closest to being finished. I want to start on my travel scrapbook. I also want to finish making my little recipe book. I also would like to read 26 books.

I am hoping that 2013 is my year! I’ll turn 25 and I have big plans for this year!

Cara Box!

So, I kind of have a love for package swaps that all kinds of different bloggers host. In the past year of having this little blog, I’ve participated in Oh Hello Friend’s Lovely Package Exchange last December, Package Pals hosted by C.R.A.F.T in April, and then The Book Club Book Swap in September.

When I heard about the Cara Box exchage hosted by Kaitlyn of Wifessionals, I knew this something I wanted to do. So I signed up to participate in December and got paired up with Samantha, of Hooah and Hiccups. She’s super awesome and you should go visit her blog! I felt bad because her package ended up arriving late.

The interesting thing about this exchange is that it has a theme, and the theme for December was Holiday Sparkle. So not only was I picking out items for Samantha’s package that I hoped she’d like based off of her blog and what info I got through emailing her, I also wanted to make sure that it went with the theme. So Samantha, I’m so sorry it was late! I’m glad you liked everything though.

And another thing about this exchange is that the person who you send a package to is not the person who sends a package to you. Tara was who I got my package from!

Cara Box Swap

I got a wonderful card (you can see it in the bottom left picture, two different types of beads and some stringing for doing some lovely crafting. I also got some nail files, gorgeous blue nail polish, and (not pictured) sparkly lip gloss! I wish I had gotten a much better shot of it, but I should probably learn that taking pictures on the kitchen counter top with the kitchen lights shining is not the best idea.

Bad pictures aside, thank you so much Tara for my lovely package! I can’t wait to use all of these fun goodies!

10 Things (Around the Web) on Tuesday: 11

  1. Tam was talking about a delicious latte her husband created before we had November’s Blog Brunch, and had so many other bloggers interested in the recipe that she posted it to her blog. I want to try the Harvest Pear Latte, but I would need to learn how to make espresso first!
  2. I love Daryl’s Busy Girl’s Guide to Self Care. Stretching, drinking water or tea, and eating healthy snacks? And taking vitamins. Seems painfully obvious, but still things I need to work on.
  3. I’m probably bordering on crazy cat lady-ness… considering my love for cats and wanting to adopt more, and owning a shirt with a cat pattern on it.. but now I want to make this sweater with cat elbow patches like Kate did!
  4. Ashley from The Shine Project always writes inspiring posts… and her recent post about 6 Thoughts You Should Have by Noon is no exception.
  5. I just found Jensie’s blog.. and not only is it cute and adorable (which make since once you see some of the work she’s done) but I love this post where she took her planner from overloaded to energized with washi tapes! I love that you could use different colored washi tapes for different projects, and even just take the washi tape off once you’re done with something! I’ve been planner-less for a while (since I had a 2011-2012 one that ended this summer, and the one I picked up at Target I didn’t realize started in January) so I could totally see myself utilizing this for the upcoming year!
  6. Liz Pride, a former Mainer, recently launched a tumblr blog called “Your LL Bean Boyfriend” that is getting massive traffic.. and for good reason. It’s hilarious and awesome! I hope you don’t have to be a Mainer to enjoy it.
  7. This Popsicle Stick vase might be a DIY for the spring, when all the pretty flowers are in bloom… or when fake ones are more prevalent!
  8. I just learned about the website craftsy.com. I’m in love. Online classes and workshops on different things from jewelry making to holiday themed classes and paper crafts? It sounds so fun!
  9. It still hasn’t really snowed a whole lot or gotten too, too cold… but I’m loving Mk’s recipes for Hot Cocoa… 4 ways! Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa sounds super yummy.
  10. {av} of long distance loving wrote this post about snoods. I’ve always just called infinity scarves, well, infinity scarves! Snood reminds me of the like 90’s computer game. But no matter what you call ’em, they are cute. And I love how she used presented them!

Hmm. This might be one of my favorite 10 Things on Tuesday. I hope you like it too!

December Goals – Mid-Month Check In

  1. Drink More Water. [I’m doing terrible at this.]
  2. Blog 21 times! [This will be my 10th post this month & I already have 1 scheduled for next week. Only 10 more to make this goal!]
  3. Do dinner/lunch/coffee with friends at least once a week.  [I’m doing great with this goal! I’ve already been to a Christmas party and have plans for one for next week.]
  4. Read 2 Books. [I read Falling Together by Marisa de los Santos… and although I’ve started a few other books, I really haven’t had the drive to finish them… so I need to finish one!]
  5. Complete at least two of the DIY/Craft projects on my to-make list. [Haven’t done this yet.]
  6. Email someone I admire once a week. [Not doing well on this one either.]

All in all, I think I’m doing okay with my goals. Some are going a little better than others, and I still have time in the month to make the rest happen!

Misc. Collage

I hope that ya’ll have been enjoying these posts this week as much as I enjoyed putting them together. I feel like I put a lot of work and effort into this week and I feel good about how the collages came out. I guess I just need to feel like I’m blogging with a purpose! And not just blogging to blog (if that makes any sense).

So here are the last few items I’m lusting over… and I didn’t really feel like they fit into any other collage this week. So here are a few misc. items!

  1. Cat Silhouette Elastic Bookmark by BlueEyedNightOwl
  2. Pass it Forward cards by The Shine Project
  3. Get Clean! No Foam Shampoo by Original Moxie
  4. Straight Up Sleek Control by Original Moxie
  5. Featherweight Conditioner by Original Moxie
  6. The 2013 Money Planner by Palmers Planners
  7. Ampersand Bookmark by BlueEyedNightOwl

I don’t remember the blog I was reading where the blogger was reviewing Original Moxie products… but ever since, I’ve been wanting to try them out. And the items I listed above come in little trial sizes, so I can try them out before I commit to buying a huge bottle, how awesome is that?

And Laura, of BlueEyedNightOwl, is so creative. How cute are those bookmarks? Even if I wanted to, I probably could not come up with a bookmark that cute.

Have you ever tried products from Original Moxie? What do you use for bookmarks? Have you been enjoying these posts this week?
