Coffee Date + February Goals

If we sat down for coffee, I’d probably ask you how you are doing with your goals and resolutions for the year. I’d probably not be actually drinking coffee (since the caffeine gives me migraines) but drinking soymilk with coffee flavored syrup. I’d tell you that since starting to drink my little soymilk + coffee syrup concoctions, I’ve been going through soymilk like crazy.

I’d ask how things are going in your life. Things at work are going awesome, the kids in my class are doing really well with goals we’ve been setting about sitting on the potty. We are doing lots of fun art projects, and this weekend I get to make invites to our class Valentine’s day party.

I’d tell you that some of my goals/resolutions for the year are going better than others… but overall, that I’m very happy with how things are going!

I’d tell you that I’ve decided what I’m going to put the coins and change that I’m saving up towards. I’m going to try like heck to go to Alt Summit in Salt Lake City in January of next year. I always get jealous of all the pictures and info that comes out of Alt Summit each year. This year they even had a “beginner” track geared towards people like me with little blogs. I have a wonderful post planned for middle of next week about my savings jar.

I’d tell you that as far as my goals of getting more exercise hasn’t happened yet… but will be soon! I’d tell you about Derby Lite. It’s a roller skating fun + fitness class using some of the skills drills common in Roller Derby! I’m registered for a class that starts later this month not far from where I work, so I’m very excited.

I’d tell you that I’m doing well with saving my coins and such, and that I have re-opened my etsy shop… but my goal to curb my spending hasn’t been going that well. Between my Derby Lite stuff, and some stuff I bought at Target, budgeting hasn’t gone well… but I’m hoping to change that right around.

February Specific Goals

  • Have a blast at Derby Lite and meet new people!
  • Get my budget under control.
  • Enjoy all the fun and excitement going on at work and in my classroom.
  • Continue to be creative and work on knitting/making jewelry/ect.

December Goals Check In + 2012 Review + Goals for 2013

First off, let’s check in with how I’m doing with my December goals.

  1. Drink More Water. [I didn’t do well with this at all. But I got an awesome water bottle called the Aquazinger for Christmas that infuses the water with fresh fruit and has definitely upped my water intake!]
  2. Blog 21 times! [I blogged 12 times. Definitely did better with blogging than I have in previous months, but I definitely didn’t officially hit this goal.]
  3. Do dinner/lunch/coffee with friends at least once a week.  [I did great with this goal! Went to a few Christmas parties, spent some time visiting with some friends. Although I did cancel on some friends a few times, I did do better with spending time with others!]
  4. Read 2 Books. [Falling Together by Marisa de los Santos was the only book I ended up reading this month. So I only halfway reached this goal.]
  5. Complete at least two of the DIY/Craft projects on my to-make list. [Did terrible with that.]
  6. Email someone I admire once a week. [I also didn’t do well with this either.]

2012 in Review

I started off January being unemployed… but only a few weeks into the new year I got 2 Part-Time jobs, both in childcare that I loved. Spent a lot of time working. Worked on my birthday, which I wasn’t feeling well for, so it definitely didn’t nearly come close to being as awesome as my 23rd birthday.

The biggest thing that happened to me (besides being employed) was a family trip to Australia for a week and a half when my dad had to go for work. It was my first trip I’ve needed to go through customs, and what I consider to be my first trip out of the country. (When you live in Maine so close to the Canadian border, and you never needed a passport to go there, it doesn’t really count.) It was amazing and we had a great time.

Spent quality time with family and friends, spending some time up in Belgrade Lakes. We did some updates in our kitchen, which looks a million times better than it did before. In late August I gave my 2 weeks notice to my part time jobs and took a full time Assistant Toddler Teacher job working alongside my cousin. It came with benefits and a wonderful group of kids, parents, and co-workers. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we lived through many days this year where we were told that the world was going to end. For Christmas I got quite a bit of fun items, and a lot of gifts and yummy food from the families where I work. I also got a couple scratch tickets, one of which gave me $100 in winnings!

Goals for 2013

Be Healthy:

  • Drink More Water
  • Exercise
  • Eat Better

With my new water bottle, I’m hoping that will help with my water intake. I rarely exercise, unless you consider my work with chasing toddlers exercise. I’m also hoping that I can eat better and just be more aware of how much junk food I’m eating.

  • Visit Eileen in Alaska
  • Plan a 2014 trip to Africa

I haven’t seen Eileen since her wedding in 2011. I definitely need to make a trip up to visit her happen this year! I also want to go to Africa. It’s weighing heavily on my heart. I want to do some proactive work in planning, like figuring out where I’ll go and contacting organizations to work with, and learning some key phrases in a new language.

Take Care of Finances:

  • Participate in The Spending Fast
  • Pay down $12,000 in student loan debt
  • Increase income by running a side business
  • Put my entire tax refund check into a Rainy Day Fund
  • Save coins & $5 savings plan for a special treat

I really hope that my finances are an area in my life where I can make a huge impact in 2013. I hope to pay down $12,000 in my student loan debt. I hope to do some saving by participating in The Spending Fast (with a few exceptions here and there) and by putting my coins and all $5 I get in a piggy bank so that I can save up for a special treat, like a new phone or a DSLR. I want to put my entire tax refund into savings for something like a Travel Fund or to save up to move out of my parents house. I also want to either re-open and do a lot to grow cool & pretty things shop, or do some other side business.

Make Time for Friends:

  • Remember Birthdays
  • Show Up
  • Respond in a timely fashion

I want to be better with my relationships with others. I want to give people birthday cards for their birthdays instead of just a message on facebook. I want to stop canceling plans with people and really just show up (and give them my undivided attention, putting the phone away). I also need to be better at responding to text messages in a timely matter.

Hobbies and Crafts:

  • Learn to knit
  • Learn to crochet
  • Work on my sewing abilities
  • Make some jewelry
  • Finishing cheerleading scrapbook
  • Start travel scrapbook
  • Finish recipe book
  • Read 26 books

I want to learn to knit  or crochet, or maybe both. I really want to do some more sewing since I haven’t really sewed a lot and I would love to work up to where I can make myself some things from different patterns. I want to make some jewelry and work on just generally being more crafty. I also want to re-teach myself to do cross-stitch/needlepoint.

I want to finish my cheerleading scrapbook, since it’s the closest to being finished. I want to start on my travel scrapbook. I also want to finish making my little recipe book. I also would like to read 26 books.

I am hoping that 2013 is my year! I’ll turn 25 and I have big plans for this year!

Life Lately {2}

    1. I’m so sorry I’ve been a bad blogger. I really don’t have an excuse… I’ve been going to work and then coming home and just relaxing. And for the weekends, I’ve been doing more relaxing, spending time with my family. and then last weekend was super busy. Last Saturday I got my hair cut, went to a former co-worker’s baby shower, my dad came home from a month & a half long trip to Australia, and went to my work’s annual auction. It was a blast, and fun to hang out with the parents of my toddlers in my class outside of them dropping off and picking up their kids.
    2. Today I ran errands, like my usual Target run, when I saw a table in someone’s yard down the street with a free sign on it… well as soon as I got home, my mom and I jumped into my car and drove back and get it. I’m not going to lie, that was the first time I just grabbed a free item from someone’s curb. My mom and I managed to get it into my Toyota RAV4 (with the seats down) and I’m so super excited to fix it up a little and put it in my room. Though when we got it out of the car when we got home my dad asked if we wanted him to bring it to the dump!
    3. I have a whole list of ideas of blog posts to write… so hopefully I can get a bunch written and scheduled. I have some book reviews to write up. Naptime is the perfect time to get reading done! I also have to post about receiving my first Stitch Fix. I also got a few awesome items recently so I will have some good WIW posts. I also have a co-worker’s Halloween party to attend tonight, so I will have a good post about what I wore for Halloween!

Life Lately {1}

I apologize for how quiet it’s been around these parts. A few weeks ago, my dad left for a business trip, and right after he left, our internet started acting up. My dad’s probably the most technologically savvy person in our family, with me second, followed by my mom and sister. And without my dad around, and with me not having any idea on how to fix our internet problems, we were stuck kind of dealing with sometimes having internet, but most of the time, getting a lot of this:

Luckily, my dad came back a few days ago, and fixed our internet problems this weekend. My internet is now speedier than it was before! So hopefully, I won’t have to take any breaks that long for a long time.

I also gave my two weeks notice… about two weeks ago! I got offered a full time Assistant Toddler Teacher job. I start on Tuesday. So I had a busy last week at my current jobs… especially my afternoon job where many of our summer staff left to go back to college. On the weekends I’ve been getting ready for my new job. Oh, and we had a yard sale last weekend, so I was pretty busy with that on Saturday.

Also, this new blog is still a work in progress, so bear with me as I’m still working on the sidebar and organizing and planning weekly series(s).

What I’ve Been Doing for the Past Month…

So I didn’t plan to take a month long break from blogging. It just kind of happened. Things have been so busy here lately that the time I usually spend writing, planning, and scheduling posts (mostly the weekends) has been filled with other things.

The weekend after I posted my last post, I went to a wedding for a friend of mine, Bonnie, who I had met through being a bridesmaid at our friend Ruth’s wedding last summer. People were at the reception and dancing for hours, so I really didn’t get home until a lot later than I intended!

The following week we were cleaning, organizing, and de-cluttering the kitchen, since we were expecting work on our kitchen to start that week.

It ended up not happening till the following week but since my mom was at camp, and my dad was out of town, I was kind of holding down the fort.

After. New Window, Floor, Countertops, & Trim-work

We rented a camp up in Belgrade Lakes, which we had last summer too, and I did end up going up there twice. Mostly I was home though. I went up there the 21st and 22nd of July, and mostly hung out with my cousins kids, fishing, swimming, and boating. I went back up on the 25th and did some watercolor painting.

B got really upset I kayaked so far away from camp. But then he felt better after posing for a picture!

I put together a little package of goodies for Eileen, Kyle & their pets, and sent that out.

I went up to Burlington the 28th and the 29th, to hang out with some friends.

This lighter was like stuck in the concrete of the sidewalk in Burlington. Tasha, KT and I seriously enjoyed this too much.

I ended up signing up for Content is King and Media Kits that Will Make You Money as my free Alt Summit classes for July. That happened at the beginning of last week. They were both really good. And definitely gave me a lot to think about as far as this blog goes. Look out for me to re-brand… including a new name! I’m very excited about it.

Charlie says: “Get ready for this awesomeness!”

Then last weekend I babysat, went blueberry picking with my family, and out to lunch for my Aunt Belinda’s birthday. I went to my Aunt’s camp that she rents for a week every August.. (I’ll probably spend some time there again this weekend.) But I promise I will be posting again soon! 🙂

A Little Bit of Everything!

Hello friends! How are all of you doing? This is going to be a big mash up blog post with a whole bunch of things going on. First up… Insta-Friday/Week In Instagrams!

I was a little quite on the instagram front this week. | Debating what TOMS Shoes to buy. | Woke up to a friend in my bed! | Dice-K from the Red Sox playing in Maine today! | Organizing music.

And also, because I got some good pictures of my outfit today, I’m subjecting you to a post about my outfit & I’m going to link up to Wonder Forest and Dana’s Self Portrait Saturday. And because these pictures were taken outside, it spares you from seeing my awkward face sunburn. I wore a hat today, and had sunglasses on for a while, so yeah, my sunburn is weird.

jacket – Panache. grey top, jeans, and boots – target. Scarf – Grace and Lace.

& now, coffee date time!

If we sat down for coffee, I’d tell you that I still really love my jobs working with kids but I’m seriously exhausted every day. And I can’t believe the weekend is already half over.. I mean, I’ve barely even started getting things done that I didn’t get done during the week!

I love blogs, and the blog community, so I have 80-something blogs in my reader. I feel like I spend so much time on facebook and reading blogs during the week that I don’t get done the other things I want to do. That being said, I really love reading others blogs and seeing what they have to say!

I’d tell you that I really just need more hours in the day. I have a list of craft/DIY’s I want to try, including the ones in my last post. I have books I want to read. And I just got a phone call about some freelance work, and now I just have to make sure I have time to do it, if I decide I want to take that work on.

I also feel like I don’t really put a lot of time into this blog. I started it in October when I was unemployed, and I definitely have less time now. But this blog is my baby, and it will continue to be a priority for me!

My week in Instagrams – Coffee Date!

Charlie, sitting on top of Toby | Charlie on the hammock on the deck. | Flowers growing in the yard! | My never ending frustration with PayPal. | My favorite little chef | A gorgeous autism tattoo done by Chris @ Atlantic Studios (in Rockland, Maine). | My dad’s new tattoo!

If we sat down for coffee I’d tell you that it’s been a good week. I actually got Monday morning and Friday afternoon off, so it’s been a shorter week than usual, but felt just as long. And of course, even with the extra free time, I haven’t been more productive that I usually am either. Sunday was a blast as a bunch of girls that I’m going to be in a wedding with all got together, and I met some new friends. It was lovely.

Had a great work week with the kiddos I work with, it’s such a fun job. Though I did get a surprise on Friday when the number of kids was so low that they called to tell me I didn’t need to come in. I ended up going with my dad to get his first tattoo!

I’d tell you that having the extra time with my family and friends this week has been nice. I’d tell you that I’ve been seeing all kinds of blog posts and instagrams from people at SNAP conference. I’d love to go to a blog conference sometime! Maybe in 2013? I’d also tell you that I bought some shoes and stuff that I’ve been eying lately, but that most of the stuff I bought today was on sale, so that made me feel better.

Have you ever been to a blog conference? What have you been up to this week?

Linking up with Rags to Stitches (Coffee Date) and Life Rearranged (Insta-Friday) so go check them out!
